Myofascial Release
Fascia is a tough connective tissue that spreads throughout the body in a three-dimensional web from head to foot without interuption. Trauma, posture, or inflammation can create a binding down of fascia resulting in excessive pressure on nerves, blood vessels, muscles, and organs.
Fascia plays an important role in the support and function of our bodies, since it surrounds and attaches to all structures. In the normal healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and wavy in configuration. It has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. When one experiences physical trauma, emotional trauma, scarring, or inflammation, however, the fascia loses its pliability. It becomes tight, restricted, and a source of tension to the rest of the body. Trauma - such as a fall, car accident, or whiplash, or surgery, or just habitual poor posture and repetitive stress injuries has cumulative effects on the body. The changes trauma causes in the fascial system influences comfort and function of our body.
Myofascial Release treats the entire Myofascial mind/body complex eliminating the pressure of the restricted Myofascial system that causes the symptoms. Myofascial Release uses low-load, long duration, sustained pressure and gentle stretching to release restrictions in the fascia. The importance of sustaining pressure at the restricted barrier to create "phase transition" is paramount for lasting results.
Treatments are performed directly on skin without oils or creams. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropiate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.
60 and 90-minute sessions available.
