Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy

Otherwise known as Back Walking...

A dance of healing on your back, Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy is deep compression effleurage delivered with the Massage Therapist’s bare feet. Ashiatsu delivers deep tissue results without painful poking.

Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy is an adaptation of an ancient form of barefoot massage brought to us by Buddhist monks. The word Ashi means foot, Atsu means pressure. Correct application will provide deep relaxation and stimulate the lymphatic system of the body. Bars are used over the massage table for balance.

Although the roots of Ashiatsu are definitely Asian, the technique and applications are truly western. The focus is on western application and sciences using foot compression to deliver a deep, consistent massage.

Ashiatsu creates a push-pull-pumping effect on the soft tissue that surrounds the spine. These movements along the para-spinals and the lumbar region can relieve muscle spasm and open the inter-vertebral foramen. This gives the nerves of the spine more space.  More space and freedom of movement for the nerves means less pain. The technique can also help to elongate the spine because the specific compression movements dramatically stretch shortened muscles.

60 and 90-minute sessions available.
